The Newcastle Community First Responders group will hold a 12km Fundraiser Walk.

Participants will check in at at Newcastle Community Hall (Eircode E91 C3V9) between 9 and 10am. Buses will depart at 10am.

From here they will be bused to the walk start point, at Kildanogue Duck Ponds.

The 12km linear walk, travelling along the final part of the Knockmealdown Trail (which runs from Ballyporeen to Newcastle), will require a moderate level of fitness. There are some inclines on the route.

The walk should take about 3 hours to complete.

Refreshments will be served at the Community Hall on your return from the walk.

We were delighted to host a thank you evening for those who contributed to our group recently.

Edith Scanlon chose our group to be the beneficiary of her employee purchase scheme which allowed us to purchase two new AED’s for our community, these AED’s will be carried by our responders when attending calls and are a huge asset to our group, Edith was joined on the evening by her Mother Nell Prendergast and sister in law Mairead Prendergast, On behalf of our group and our community THANK YOU Edith for your kind contribution.

We were also joined on the evening by a delegation from local outdoor activities group Knockmealdown Active, We were joined by Chairman Joe Byrne, Grainne Moynihan, Kevin O’Donnell, and Mark Rylands. Knockmealdown active chose to donate four two way radios to our group. These radios are vital kit when attending calls as the geography of our area does not lend kindly to mobile phone coverage, these radios allow us to stay in contact with each other and pass on vital information to the National Ambulance Service (NAS) on the status of the emergency.On behalf of the group and the community we would like to say THANK YOU to Knockmealdown active for their kind contribution to our group. We would not be able to function without the kindness and support of the public and as always we are truly grateful once again THANK YOU.

We would also like to acknowledge Tipperary County Council for funding received for additional radios purchased through its Community enhancement grant.

Event Booking Up

Thank you to the very many of you that have booked to join us at the Knock ME Down Adventure Race event on August 27th 2022.  Booking is now well advanced, half of the available places are now sold, and a number of time slots are full.

If you wish to book, please don’t delay as the time slot you would like may be booked out. 

The event will be promoted around tomorrow’s Red Bull ‘King of the Cashel‘ event, best of luck to anyone taking part.

NOTE: Please do not show up on the morning of the event expecting to take part without booking. The event MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE ONLINE. All participant numbers will have been allocated with timing chips in the week prior to the event. Once this has been completed, no further entries can be taken. In reality, booking fills weeks, if not months, before the event takes place.

Keeping up to date: portions of the event will be streamed live on the Knock ME Down Facebook Page. Photos and video of the event will also be posted online after the event has taken place.

The events now have their own domain at www.KnockMEDown.ie, please save the address. It leads to the events’ own Facebook Page. 

Because it was so popular in 2019, prizes for Male and Female over 60 age categories will be continued into 2021 (and beyond, we hope).

The Knock ME Down MÓR, as in previous years, will only have prizes for the top two Male and top two Female finishers.

The run section of the MÓR is slightly different this year, but don’t worry, it’s equally challenging. Details of the new route will be on the Information Page https://bit.ly/3pt5gxu once we’ve had a chance to get them on there. 

This year the improved boarding and disembarking facilities for Kayaks at Baylough, is to be expanded even further, to accommodate a quicker throughput of participants. There will also be no double Kayaks in this year’s event, they are all single sit-on Kayaks. 

Over-the-head buoyancy aids on the lake section will be replaced by units that zip up the front. These are much easier to put on and it should prevent race numbers being dislodged during this process. 

We will use a new timing system this year, no more need for dibbers, you’ll be timed automatically using disposable electronic ‘Timing Tags’ contained in your Race Number. It will, therefore, be important to protect this number and make sure it is visible. 

We are also expanding the participation numbers in the ultra-challenging event Knock ME Down MÓR. This event previewed in 2018, running again in 2019, as it proved immensely popular. The MÓR adds to the Challenge running and cycling routes bringing, the event to an exceptionally challenging 57km event.

Start Times

Participants in the extended Knock ME Down MÓR course will start in 30 second individual time-slots prior to 10.30am. The Knock ME Down Challenge will also be set off in individual slots, starting at 11am, Tickets for both events are €80 each.

If participants wish to start together it is recommended to book later time slots in the Challenge or earlier time slots in the MÓR, as these book less quickly. If you think it will take you time to finish the course please try to take the earliest time slot you can get.

We are aware that many people may be feeling a sense of anxiety and stress at this time.  In this regard we are also developing information and resources to support mental wellbeing and promote resilience during these challenging times.  We will be sharing this with you when these are developed.

Our collective efforts are critical, we need to do this together, as one community. We will be asking everyone to play their part, to help each other. Slowing the spread of this disease protects everyone, but it particularly protects those who are most at risk.

Covid-19 Health Communications Stakeholder Support

• April 11th (Holy Saturday) – Cashel to Cahir
• May 9th – Cahir to Goatenbridge
• June 13th – Goatenbridge to Lismore
• July 11th – Lismore to Aglish
• August 8th – Aglish to Ardmore

The price for the event is €125 for all 5 stagesor€30 per stage when booked individually.–Each stage is between 18 and 25km long. Only Stage 3 (Goatenbridge to Lismore) involves mountain walking. The rest are relatively flat.Payment includes refreshments at check-in, buses from check-in to walk start point, stewards and guides on the day and refreshments at sign-out (which will be back at the check-in location). Once finished you can then get into your cars to drive home whenever you please. Booking will open shortly, we’ll have a link to booking here when it is open.

Note: Child bookings are limited to 10 per booking, there is no limit on Adult bookings. If you wish to book in a large group use earlier or later time slots, as these book more slowly.

Once you have booked you will receive a booking confirmation by email from wonderland@abgn.ie (please clear this address in your Spam Filter). you will receive a ticket/s by email from this address just before the event. If you do not receive your booking confirmation please email web@abgn.ie.

Parking for bus transfers will be in Goatenbridge (a small village in South Tipperary between Clogheen & Newcastle, don’t worry, the location is here we’ll send you directions before the event.) While there is no time limit on your stay at Winter Wonderland, times below are for Santa visits and to balance loads for bus transfers.
